"Hans Schwarz, the larger than life Butcher in Andau, always had a small hobby production of wine but sold most of his fruit to local cooperatives until Hans’ friend and Austrian sweet wine legend Alois Kratcher convinced Schwarz he had to start making wine under his own name. At the time Kratcher was working closely with Manfred Krakl of Sine Qua Non and both men set out to help Hans Schwarz make the best red wine possible. The result, Schwarz Rot, brought quality Zweigelt to a whole new level and raised the bar for all Austrian reds.
